Silver Sportz Extravaganza

Staying active as you age could be the secret of maintaining sound physical well-being, feeling good and living longer. This was the take-home message for seniors and their families who flocked to Braddell Heights Community Club to participate in the ‘Silver Sportz Extravaganza’ held on Sunday, 28 September 2008. This event was supported by corporate sponsor, Lam Soon Singapore Pte Ltd.

Multi-generational families tried their hand at the numerous action stations that featured senior-friendly activities such as Gateball, Petanque, Archery, Pickleball and IG Ball, which were sports that seniors could pick up to keep themselves physically active even as they age. They also learnt new moves and made fast friends while picking up steps to line- and folk dancing — activities which proved to be hugely popular during the roadshow.

Guest-of-Honour Mr Seah Kian Peng, MP for Marine Parade GRC and Adviser to Marine Parade GRC GROs, was also treated to energetic line-dancing and Bhangra performances put by interest groups from Mountbatten and Potong Pasir Constituencies respectively.

The action continued well into the afternoon, with seniors engaged in a myriad of health awareness talks which dispensed tips on the art of active ageing and prevention of domestic injuries, among other programmes.

At the end of the roadshow, many seniors left the CC happy, satisfied and empowered to live life to the fullest because of the new friends and lasting skills that they have acquired!
