1. What is the Council for Third Age?
Set up in May 2007, the Council for Third Age is an independent body set up to promote active ageing so that seniors can achieve a better quality of life in all the six dimensions of wellness.

The Council plays a leadership role in driving the thrust towards creating an active ageing culture in Singapore.
2. What does the Council for Third Age do to promote active ageing?
One of the key initiatives of the Council is the organisation of the Active Ageing Festival. This festival was launched in place of the Senior Citizens' Week.

The Council also provides support and assist to empower active seniors who are keen to develop programmes / activities for themselves or other seniors and thus develop and nurture a vibrant seniors' voluntary sector. The Golden Opportunities! (GO!) Fund is a community-level initiative that will create more opportunities for seniors to remain active.

3. What is the Active Ageing Festival?
This festival is the flagship event organised by the Council for Third Age for the seniors in Singapore. It is a platform where interest groups and organisations showcase their products and services that can fulfil the aspirations and interests of seniors. It helps seniors form social networks and promote an active ageing culture in Singapore.
4. What is different about this year's Active Ageing Festival? >

Active Ageing Carnival:
Building upon the success of AAF2007, this year's carnival will boast two days of activities with opportunities and choices for seniors to adopt an active ageing lifestyle.

Active Ageing Roadshows:
A new initiative in collaboration with the CDCs to bring the message of active ageing to the heartlands. Active ageing and active living is not limited to educational levels, socio-economic strata or social levels. It is a mindset that anyone can adopt and the CDCs are promoting the various activities that are accessible to the seniors at each of the constituency.

Grandparents Day:
Celebrates and honours grandparents for their contribution to the family and society. The key highlight is a parade march Madi-Gras style from the Esplanade Park to Singapore Flyer. The parade march will take place on 23 November 2008.

Active Agers Awards:
This award honours the seniors who live their lives with vitality and meaning. They work, volunteer, look after grandchildren, study, travel, play. This award culminates in a ceremony held on 4 October where up to seven seniors will be conferred the title of Active Ager and be an ambassador for active ageing in Singapore!
5. When is the Active Ageing Festival?
The Festival is a four month long event that will start on 23 August and end on 30 November. Please see calendar for more information.
6. Is there a need for an Active Ageing Festival?
According to a UN study, Singapore will have the world's 4th oldest population by 2050. The first batch of baby boomers would be 60 and above come 2010. Over the next two decades, Singapore's population will age rapidly and this will present challenges.
As such, it is important to cultivate an active ageing mindset, where the population is made aware at an early stage, and is prepared. Understanding the importance of having this mindset can pave the way to a society that is well integrated with the ageing population phenomenon and Singaporeans become equipped to age with dignity.
7. How can my company be involved in the Active Ageing Festival?
our company can take part in two ways. Firstly, your company can choose to become a corporate sponsor for specific activities. For a list of festival activities. All corporate sponsors will be exclusively featured in our Active ageing promotional collaterals and advertisements, and be given due credit.

They are seniors who live their lives with vitality and meaning. They work, volunteer, look after grandchildren, study, travel, play. In other words, they are seniors who continue to grow in the six dimensions of their lives - Social, Emotional, Intellectual, Physical, Vocational and Spiritual.
9. What are the six dimensions of wellness?
They are seniors who live their lives with vitality and meaning. They work, volunteer, look after grandchildren, study, travel, play. In other words, they are seniors who continue to grow in the six dimensions of their lives - Social, Emotional, Intellectual, Physical, Vocational and Spiritual.

Social Wellness
Living in harmony with others, and having positive relations with friends and family.

Emotional Wellness
Managing and expressing emotions freely, being accepting of how others feel and having a positive outlook on life.

Intellectual Wellness
Enjoys acquiring new knowledge and skills, stimulating the mind through pursuing hobbies, formal classroom learning or simply reading a book.

Physical Wellness
Caring for one's health through exercising, practising good eating habits and managing medical conditions and medications.

Vocational Wellness
Finding personal satisfaction and fulfilment through work and volunteerism.

Spiritual Wellness
Appreciating life; having a personal value system and acting according to it.
10. Do I need to pay for the events?
No, these events are organised for, and opened free-of-charge to the public.
